Turning 30

I spent my birthday last Fri at home most of the time, other than feeding the community cats in the morning and in the evening. In between, I busied myself by cleaning the cat litter trays for Angel and Bob and also played with them.

Since we kind of celebrated the day before by going out and having lunch, I was happy to enjoy Mom's home cooked meals of stir fried instant noodles with veggies and meatballs (lunch) and fried rice and soup (dinner).

Happy birthday. Remember that metabolism starts to go downhill once we hit 30. So start perking up your metabolism through exercise. So sorry to deliver grim news on your birthday. :)

Btw, how is Angel and Bob getting along?

m - I checked with Mom and realised her style of cooking her instant noodles is not stir-fried. It's a bit like dry noodle we see hawker stalls prepare. Mom would 1st boil the water in the saucepan and use the water to cook the green vegs. After removing the veg, she would use the same boiling water to cook the noodle and then sausages, etc. As the water amount is not a lot, with all the boiling, it can accompany the noodle and the savoury stuff on to the serving plate. My mom would have earlier put some of the noodle seasonings, chilli sauce and ketchup. Hope my explanation is clear.

kxbc: I have been reading the Cat vs Cat book that has good tips and advice. I have tried to put small towels of the scent of the other cat near the food bowl. We have let Bob out of my bedroom while Angel is sleeping in sis' room or balcony, so that after we put Bob back, Angel will smell Bob around the house. Angel acts normally and will only hiss occasionally. I twice over the past few weeks with a fence as a barrier fed both cats food and played with them. Angel seems to react well by eating and playing but Bob will eat and also eyeball Angel. Last night, with a small gap of the sliding door with Angel in the balcony and Bob in the hall, I used some cat treat that both like - Angel eagerly ate them but Bob refused to eat and just made a low growl. It seems worrying as Bob seems to be acting tense. Mom and I are not sure what to do next :(

Some cats are just loners and will never get along with any cat. Take for example my XX and CC. They just tolerate each other and XX will back off if she sees CC cuddling with us. They will never be best of friends but at least they can still live in the same space for 99.9% of the time w/o fighting.

I once saw a program on Animal Planet and this woman had a problem with her rabbits. The top rabbit kept harrasing the newcomer, biting and chasing him all day, as long as they are in the same room. What finally worked was that the trainer actually got the woman to bring the 2 rabbits out together to a neutral place everyday, eg the garage, shed, garden where both rabbits do not venture out to. Once in the new territory, both rabbits are scared and depend on each other for company. After a few weeks, they actually become friends.

But not sure if this will work with cats though.

hi, thanks for your mum's receipe. it sounds good too. will give it a try real soon = )

hope you do manage to get Bob to be more relaxed. both cats look so cute and Bob sounds like such a dear that it would be so sad to have him live on the balcony only. good luck!

Anon: Bob has been staying in my bedroom for quite some time. We only let him stay in the balcony for a week.
