Bob with arthritis?

I hope not, as Bob seems to have recovered and based on the vet's advice and online reading, arthritis is incurable but we can try to make the life of the affected cats more comfortable and less painful.

Bob was limping about a month ago. He suddenly limped on one of his legs, was just lying/sleeping most of the time and not eating much. We knew something was wrong when he was quiet in my room and he didn't jump up onto tables, chairs and higher planes. One of his eyes kept having discharge.

When he didn't recover on his own, we took him to Dr Tan @ Vet@RV who thought he might have arthritis, so he gave him a painkiller injection. Bob could jump and walk around for the next 24hrs but after that back to limping again. So we brought him back to Vet@RV and Dr Tan gave us a week of liquid painkiller and glucosamine for Bob. Bob only needed that week dose of painkiller and he has been walking normally without painkiller for the past 1.5 week.

Dr Tan has told us that it's important for Bob to lose some weight as he's overweight and the excess weight adds stress to his joints. I've been giving Bob less food and added wet food to his diet.

He still does lying around the house but he is alert and will meow loudly in the room when he wants to be out.

Bob is back to resting on stool

and high table :)

I have noticed that one of my cat which is entirely on wet food (around 1 x 160g can per day) has a better weight and body shape compared to the others who are on 70% dry/30% wet food daily.

You may wish to try Wellness wet food. It is completely grain free and uses human grade ingredients. You can get it at a lower price (~20% lower) if you order in online from some pet food suppliers.

Hi KXBC. Thanks for your comments :) Angel has been on 100% dry food and only wet food once in a blue moon. But he is slim. We think Bob is fat because he is cooped up in my room most of the time. We still can't let him and Angel mingle after both have been staying with us for more than 2 years. I've let them try Wellness wet food earlier this year but they and even the community cats didnt want to try it! The comm cats are on Fussie Cat's Tuna with Salmon and Aristo (Yihu)'s Tuna with Salmon. I mix glucosamine powder with Fussie Cat's wet food for Bob and he takes it but only half a 80g at any time. Bob's diet is now 20%-30% wet food.

Glad to know that Bob is ok.

How is he taking his diet? Horus is super cranky now after I cut his food intake -- he is 7.3kg -- and will lie by his foodbowl and meow at me very sadly. Hope Bob doesn't do that to you. haha! :)

Bob will take half a small can of wet food quite enthusiastically on top of his usual dry food which I have cut down. Bob is 6.4kg :)

A lot of dry food has too much grain, especially corn and corn-based products. I have my cat eat all the wet food first, then he can snack on dry food. I avoid dry foods that have tons of corn and corn gluten (which you can see are often the first ingredients listed on a lot of the cheap brands).
