Angel the monkey

Angel has been able to jump onto the stove and kitchen sink without much effort. We have to keep him out of the kitchen when we are cooking, hanging clothes out to dry, cutting stuff with knife, etc.

Dad has used the metal fences my friend Joan used to keep her dog Harry in to make a gate. We are not sure how long that will prevent Angel from entering the kitchen as he may one day be able to jump over the gate.

These few days, our firm "no biting" doesn't seem to work on Angel. He will bite hard on my hand or arm and not let go. When he turns wild, I will put him into the cage as a "time-out" session for him. He will usually calm down after that.

He will scale the fence in no time. If he can't jump that high, you will see him hanging on the fence with his tiny paws. Hehehe... You can't stop a cat from going where it wants. Especially if it is a kitten.

One solution is to cover the fence with cardboard or something like that on the outside so that he can't "hang around".

Hahahaha like kxbc said, he'll eventually learn to scale the fence.

Try sticky tape on the fence. Or coins in empty cans. Cats hate those!

Then again, you can't really stop a determined kitty can you...

I found that it works when I hold the scruff of my cats' neck and shaking them when I want them to stop their behaviour. You might want to try it.

And yes, the fence won't hold for long. Angel will probably take it as an exercise to see how high he can jump! Even fat Horus can clear the baby-proof fence I used to use...

We actually used to have a foldable door for the kitchen but Dad took it down as it made the kitchen stuffy and we didn't really need to close up the kitchen. Mum said Angel has already tried to dangle from the fence once but found it too unsteady and didn't dare to venture further.

Pressing their head down with a finger and telling them "No" whenever they do something may work.

It mimics what the mother cat will do to her kittens. That's what I see my KK doing to the others (when they were small kittens) when they disturb her too much. It works most times for me.
