Buffet Lunch @ Melt Cafe

My family and I went to Melt Cafe @ Mandarin Oriental Hotel last Sat. I like the ceiling lights.

These were what I had:


The service @ Melt Cafe is good. When I made reservation, the cafe staff asked if it was for a special occasion, I told her it was to celebrate my sis' birthday earlier this month. She said they will prepare a complimentary cake for us.

After the above plates of food, I was quite full. My parents and sis were stuffed too. When the cake came, we wondered if we could finish it. And surprisingly I was the one who ate up most of it (50%) as the rest could give up after a few mouthfuls.


I was a bit disappointed with the buffet as I expected more desserts and other food items at the cost of $56++. There was a 15% discount for UOB cardholders. However, I had a number of buffet meals this year due to meetings at Shangril Hotel (buffet dinner at The Line) and office lunch (@ Carousel @ Hotel Royal on Scott), so buffets aren't very attractive to me and I can't eat as much as before.

It was nice though that my family enjoyed it and I was happy too :)

It's lovely to see the light blue sky with cotton candy clouds after the rain.

茶そば chasoba

昨日車を運転方のレッスンの前に, 昼ご飯を作りました。材料は茶そばと卵と野菜と納豆でした。美味しいでした。

I quickly whipped up my favorite soba with an egg, coriander and mushroom before my driving lesson yesterday afternoon. It was yummy and I think nutritious too :)

Take away container

On Fri, when I brought this cute stainless stain container to hold my take away from the vegetarian stall in the office canteen, the stall owners commented that the container is useful. A lady who walked past me asked me where I got it from. My parents bought it from OG at around $14. It was supposed to keep my dinner warm since they eat at 6am and I usually reach home after 7pm.

Indeed it is useful and I feel good not to have my takeaway in styrofoam container since I will be having lunch in the office once a week. I have a pretty lunch box, a gift from SP - that will be handy when I pack sandwich from home :)

Death of loved ones

I was telling Dad yesterday that after experiencing the deaths of many hamsters and some of the community cats, I seem to be less sad and also shed less tears. Dad said it is better for the little ones to die when they were suffering and we have also done our best to take care of them and their welfare. He hoped that when it's time for him to leave us, we will also recover quickly and move on and be happy.

It's quite funny to see both of them together (but sadly this won't happen between Bob and Angel). We are happy that Bob has been active and no longer limping. He can jump on top of this cupboard from my drawers and also to fridge from the kitchen table.

Bye, White Neck

Dad called me just now that he found White Neck's stiff body @ the small pavilion in the park and wrapped him in a bag and passed him to the cleaners @ the dumping ground. He told them "kucing mati".

For the past week White Neck had been eating little or not at all. He responded well after a jab few weeks ago and stopped drooling. I was planning to sent him to the vet for scaling but he came down with flu and lost weight. He got a little better after we force fed him some medicine but didn't regain his appetite.

Initially he still maintained his manja personality and would want us to sayang him and followed us around. We knew something wasn't right over weekend when he lost that spark. I wanted to send him to the vet this morning but we couldn't find him last night.

He was the 1st cat I sterilized and always seemed happy to see us. I will miss him.

Bob has slimmed down a bit earlier but seems to be putting on some weight, so we must continue to restrict his food intake. Unlike Angel who doesn't gobble up all his food at one go, we have to give Bob in small portions. He will be sitting by his food tray and meow or stare at me to replenish his food. Funny :)

This morning while Dad was having his breakfast, Angel sat on top of the rack where we usually place our bread. He looked so funny :)


Bob didn't do the same earlier this afternoon and just lay on the table.

Hearty lunch

When I have the time on Sundays, I like to make my own lunch. My favorite is chasoba with omelette, veggies and natto powder. On one of the Sundays as sis got some tuna and brie cheese, I made a sandwich with them and coriander. Yummy :)

Ups & downs of learning driving

Last Sun's lesson made me feel down as I didn't do well, didn't react fast enough, didn't observe safety when I panicked. The instructor wasn't very encouraging too. I contemplated whether to switch to learning auto car but after thinking it through and encouragement from friends, I've decided to just persevere.

This morning I got a cheerful instructor. He explained to me clearly how to start the car smoothly, brake smoothly, using clutch in and clutch out instead of brake for low speed control and do a nice U turn and lane change. He was encouraging and said I've improved. Hopefully I will do better for tomorrow's lesson under another instructor. Then it will make this a good weekend as I have passed my final theory test yesterday :)

Nodame Cantabile

A friend told me about this drama, so I goggled and found out that it was based on a manga and there is also an anime. I prefer to watch anime. Maybe it's cuter. Perhaps I will try catching it since I am taking a break from my Jap lessons. I find my foundation is weak and I should try to revise on my own before taking the course again. My family doesn't think I will go back again. They may be right based on my track record. We'll see.

Anyway, I like the sound track from the anime. It makes me feel happy just by listening to it :)

Quick lunch and shopping

During lunch time today, I had a turkey sandwich, double chocolate cookie and green tea @ Quizno, before browsing the shops. I got a pair of black colored flats from Bata @ $25. Not sure how long they will last me but I hope they won't bite my feet. If they are comfy, I'll get another pair of pink ones.

Banana honey face mask

Last night I mashed up a banana and mixed in honey as mom told me that she got this face mask tip from some TV program. I helped mom to spread the mask on the face before doing mine. It smelled delicious but I'm not sure if our face glowed after that. Mom said she would rather eat the banana in future as it is quite messy. I had fun making and putting it on :)

Smell the roses

Sis was asking last Sunday if I have time to stop and smell the roses, seeing me packing my weekend with driving lessons, meeting friends sometimes, Jap lesson, sending my luggage for repair etc. I think I do try to catch a whiff every now and then over meals, catching with family and friends, in the park with the cats or accompanying Bob in my room :)

Badminton, dinner & dessert

After our monthly badminton session, my 2 girlfriends, the little boy and I had our dinner @ Tamako Jap restaurant @ Casuarina Rd. Luckily I ate chicken soba soup and chawamushi, so I had space for honey green tea ice cream @ an ice cream parlour before heading home.

I pass JLPT 4N

I received the result slip on Thurs evening. I didn't have high hopes of passing as I didn't think I did well in the listening component. It was a nice surprise when I saw "Passed" on the slip :)

I was contemplating whether to continue with my Jap lessons as I don't have the discipline in revising and only spend my Sat morning to do my homework. It seems a pity to give up though and I have given up learning other things before.

I shall continue with learning Jap and see if I will work harder and improve :)

I had a set lunch of hamburger and toufu @ $10 @ a Jap restaurant in Cuppage Plaza with a friend. I wanted to give myself a treat for passing the test :)
