Indian food, movie and walk

S and I shared prata and briyani before we watched "To Rome with Love" in the late afternoon. I like "Midnight in Paris" and when I learnt that Woody Allen has a new movie, I was keeping a lookout for it. I watched the first half of "To Rome with Love" during the flight home from Bangkok, but nothing beats watching on the big screen with S and a nice 45 minutes' walk home :)

Hunger Games, lunch & dessert

I enjoyed the Hunger Games movie but I prefer the book, as the book made me feel more for the characters. The movie does flesh out certain scenes in the book and I think Jennifer Lawrence played the Katniss Everdeen character quite well. After the movie, we had lunch and tea @ TWG @ Ion. We browsed at the malls for a short while before satisfying our sweet tooth @ Paul @ Ngee Ann City. I'm happy to know that both sis and I had a nice time together :)

Day out with Sis :)

We are on the train to Orchard and will be watching Hunger Games. Wee!

Spending time with a dear friend

I took afternoon leave today to hang out with my good friend, Jasmine before she leaves for US next Tues. We probably won't be seeing each other soon. We got to know each other during the hostel orientation and have been keeping in touch ever since. As with all the other good friends, it's nice that we have a lot of things to share and discuss.

After lunch, we wanted to watch the movie "27 dresses" but it will only be opened tomorrow. In the end, we chose to watch "Love in the time of Cholera" at Cineleisure. A friend who read the book told me it's a quirky love story and I agree. Some scenes were funny as the lead character wrote letters to declare his love for a lady. It's an unusual and interesting story as it is set during the period around the year 1900 and makes one wonder what is love. Jasmine and I even had a discussion about the movie over tea and pies.

After dinner with her and her boyfriend, Jasmine and I hugged and said our goodbyes. Luckily, we can always email and call without relying on just snail mail :)

Peanut butter OD

Before watching Pursuit of Happyness, sis and I had lunch @ Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe. I ordered condensed milk peanut butter toast while she had mee sua with chicken curry.

The initial mouthfuls of the toast with thick peanut butter were good but after a while, it got a bit too much and I suffered from diminishing marginal utility. I actually preferred the little moat of condensed milk around the toast and finished that up. I couldn't finish the last few bits and told sis that I won't be touching peanut butter for at least a few weeks :)

The movie was quite good but I expect it to be better. Nevertheless, it is touching and inspiring.

Apocalyto

I watched Mel Gibson's Apocalyto on Thurs night. it. It was rather violent due to some killing scenes. However, I like the movie for the messages behind it. One of them is that we must remember not to take too much from our environment and to treat others with respect and compassion.

I found 2 websites reviewing this movie:
http://www.beyondchron.org/articles/Reassessing_Mel_Gibson_s_Apocalyto_4074.html
http://movies.monstersandcritics.com/reviews/article_1228862.php

I will read them when I'm free.

Snake show and Blood Diamond

After finishing our dinner of porridge in one of eateries at the shophouses of China, my friend K and I were greeted by a stage show just outside the closed street. An Indian snake charmer was explaining his 3 baskets of snakes. The last 2 snakes were the King Cobra and the American Albino python. We learnt that breed of python is not from the wild but breed on farms and it does not harm humans. But it is an expensive pet to own as the charmer said he paid $15,000 for it. The python seems quite tame as the charmer invites members of the audience to come up stage, have the python drape over their shoulders and get their family/friends to take photos for them. Chinese New Year is more than a month away but the streets of Chinatown were already quite crowded.

Last night was the first time I watched a movie @ The Cathay (near Plaza Singapura). We watched Blood Diamond as I heard about the good reviews and I think Leonardo DiCaprio is a good actor after seeing him in The Departed. Blood Diamond is a good movie due to the cast and the storyline. I won't have known about the controversy behind diamonds, more about the child soldiers if not for this movie. A few months ago, I bought a pair of diamond earrings for myself after a good recommendation by a friend's sister. After watching the movie, I wonder what is the point of paying so much money for diamond. The diamond earrings I have shall be the only diamond accessory I own. Another point that I feel the movie tries to bring across subtly is that when one dies, what's important is not wealth, but the loved ones, friends, family around you and the happy memories.

New Year Day

Today is one of the rare days that I didn't have breakfast at home. I had it @ MacDonald with my good friend, Yang Ling and over hot cakes, we chatted from 9am to 10plus. I then went down to Paya Lebar MRT station to recce the venue of the cat show this Sun @ Malay Village, so that I could give the volunteers clear directions on how to get there.

Sis and I watched the Borat movie in the early afternoon. It is quite hilarious and initially I found some of the scenes a little disturbing. It's R21 by the way. I do find it strange that the movie is based on Kazakhstan and not some fake country as I'm sure the movie must have offended many people. Perhaps this is the intention of the movie.

After doing some shopping, we had dinner @ Cedele Depot @ Wheelock Place. Sis had minestrone soup , chocolate chip orange cupcake and a drink called Chocolate Addiction. I had Forbidden Rice Salad - brown rice and veggies with Thai balsamic sauce . Yummy. And not forgetting the free flow of bread but we just had this much.

Madagascar

Lucky me got a free ticket from sis to watch the preview of Madagascar @ Cineleisure. There are some interesting ideas used in the show. The beginning was a bit predictable and lame. However, it is still quite enjoyable because it is a story about friendship and freedom and it did manage to bring some laughter and wonder from me. So watch the show without high expectation but rather to appreciate creativity and remember that good friends bring out the best in us and are there for us when we are down or doubt ourselves.

I brought home a bookmark and postcard for remembrance :)
